Troy Calhoun

Air Force's Troy Calhoun decides to stay

Although Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun has been named as a top candidate to replace Lane Kiffin at Tennessee, sources say that Toty Calhoun has made the decision to keep his current job at this time.
“Troy already pulled his name out the hat with Tennessee. I don’t know whether he has done it formally, but he just got out of a meeting. Troy is happy where he is,” a well-placed source told Fox31’s Josina Anderson early Thursday afternoon.
Tennessee is currently searching for someone to take over as head coach of their football program in the wake of Kiffin’s abrupt departure to Southern California on Tuesday.
Although leading the Volunteers is still considered a top job, there are indications that Calhoun was more attracted to the lure of longevity where he is.
“Troy has stability at Air Force. They just came off a Bowl win, not to mention he has excellent retirement benefits there,” the source added.
At this point in their discussions, it’s apparent that Tennessee didn’t do enough to make Calhoun comfortable and secure to take over another program.
“Calhoun like any coach wanted to bring in his own people, and from what I know Tennessee was trying to get him to work with current people on their staff he wasn’t comfortable with. So unless they change that, it’s more than a likelihood he will stay with Air Force.”
Calhoun is 25-14 in three seasons at Air Force.

Two more earthquakes: one in Venezuela and the other in Oklahoma

Only days after a 7.0 earthquake destroyed much of Haiti, two different earthquakes have been reported today, one in Caracas, Venezuela, and the other in Oklahoma

The Venezuela earthquake, registering as a 5.6 earthquake by the U.S. Geological Survey, was by far the more severe of the two, occurring just off the Caribbean coast of Caracas at about 3:40 p.m. local time.

Luckily, the capital was mostly untouched, with only a few evacuations and no reported injuries thus far. According to Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami, most of the damage and injuries occurred in the state of Falcon, west of Caracas.
El Aissami reported there were only two serious injuries reported, and 12 others had minor injuries.
There have also been no reports of infrastructure damage, either in the capital or outside of it. Venezuela's oil refineries, a key part of their economy, were also undamaged...

Alcoa Earnings

Hopes that global manufacturing activity is heating up lifted industrial stocks Monday ahead of an earnings report from Alcoa Inc.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 46 points, while the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index advanced for a sixth straight day. The Nasdaq composite index slipped.

After the closing bell, Alcoa posted revenue that topped expectations, but profits excluding one-time costs fell short of forecasts. The report from the nation's largest aluminum producer gave traders one of the first looks at how companies fared in the final quarter of 2009.

The Alcoa numbers followed a report that China's exports jumped 18 percent in December. The bigger-than-expected increase came after 13 straight months of
